Scoping a fintech audit without drowning in documents

How engagement letters and document request lists keep fieldwork focused for payment and lending firms.

An unbounded document dump slows everyone. Before a regulatory readiness audit begins, agree which licence type, which legal entities, and which products sit inside the engagement letter. Everything else waits for a later phase.

Write the document request list in the language your team already uses—policy titles, system names, folder conventions. Generic auditor jargon forces compliance staff to guess and often to over-share.

Sequence intake. Policies and organisational charts in week zero; samples and logs once planning is locked. Receiving everything on day one creates noise and hides gaps until fieldwork is half over.

Protect interview time. Three well-prepared conversations with process owners beat twelve interrupted chats. Send themes in advance so people bring the right binders.

Leave room in the plan for one unexpected thread. Fintech audits almost always surface a side product or white-label arrangement that was not in the kick-off deck. Budget half a day to follow it without derailing the core timetable.
